Tree of Fashion

Imagine AMFI as a tree. The roots, leaves, branches and trunk represent the courses of the Amsterdam Fashion Institute. Disciplines that are interrelated and need each other to survive in the world of fashion. Courses that educate creatively, technically and commercially which prepare the students for a career in fashion.

The Roots – Fashion and Management

While rarely, if ever, visible this is the largest part of our tree and an elementary study for the fashion industry. The technological knowledge of production, management, marketing, buying, economics and textiles are stimulated by creative execution and thinking. Potential professional directions for these students are production managers, buyers or product managers.

The Leaves – Fashion and Design

As you may recognise a tree by its leaves, the same can be said for a fashion house or label in that the design of a collection sets the tone.

The learning process is stimulated by the free spirit of experimental creation and students are in turn stimulated by creativity and learn every possible part of design. They can work as designers or stylists for brands or retail organisations, they can also be autonomous designers, stylists or trend watchers.

The Branches – Fashion and Branding

The branches of a tree communicate and translate information between the roots and the leaves. This programme makes AMFI unique in the world of Dutch fashion education. A significant discipline which promises much for the future. Students obtain the knowledge and skills pertinent to branding, visual merchandising, retail conceptualisation, visual communication, media communication and fashion in the purest sense. The students can secure future jobs in the fields of forecasting, public relations, magazines and communications.

The Trunk

Fashion is an international business and every course, theoretical or technical, is given in English, the international language of business, and inspired by global trends and developments.
